adventures of late

I got in a bad habit of not documenting things a few months ago because Chandler and I found out we were expecting a new addition to our family! But I didn't think I could keep myself from spilling the beans too early - so I didn't even write at all.

But now here I am, with so many adventures to share since they have been accumulating over the last few months!

...

First, about that new addition to our family :). We found out a few weeks ago that we are having a boy! He is due November 5, and today marks the half way point - 20 weeks today! It is such an amazing experience to realize that a new life is forming inside of me. I find it to be a phenomenal miracle, and I am so excited to start this whole new phase of life. Chandler and I are excited to be parents.

We have had many other adventures in the last few months as you can imagine - the chaos of moving, a rather embarrassing faux pas, a Disneyland anniversary trip, and getting an unexpected pet, among others...

Yep, we moved! We were set on staying in our previous apartment for a few years, but through a series of miraculous and seemingly unfortunate circumstances we now find ourselves living a very blessed life in a new place. We experienced a surprise flood in our last apartment which led to discovering a colony of mold in our bedroom walls. It was the end of the semester for Chandler, and already chaotic, but we were able move in with some family friends for a couple of weeks while we got everything figured out. We looked at it as an unexpected vacation at the end of the semester. And we decided it was time to move to prepare for our growing family.

So after looking at multiple apartments and weighing our options, we found a true gem out by the lake. Our landlords treat us like their own family, we have plenty of space to grow, and we are in a good location for all the places we go every day. What originally seemed like a bad thing has turned into a blessing - even though we miss our old neighbors and ward at church. We really are blessed!

...

And for comic relief, I will share this story briefly. A few weeks ago one of my cute students gave me a restaurant gift card to thank me for helping her with her dancing this past year. It was so nice, and since I have been craving all types of food lately, we decided to use it that night. We were so excited! We went to the restaurant, had a great dinner, and we were sure to go over the amount on the card so that we wouldn't have an odd amount left... Well, at the end when we gave the card to our server, who looked at it confused, and slowly bore the news that we were using a card for a different restaurant. That's right - we were using an Outback Steakhouse card at a Texas Roadhouse! It's so fun to have times like that and laugh about it - we sure have a lot of those moments. The upside was that we got to go out to eat again!

I will share one more adventure, and then I will call it a day. If you have made it this far you deserve major kudos! This is about the unexpected pet mentioned earlier. We are living in a basement apartment, and one evening a few weeks ago we heard this weird scratching coming from one of the window wells. We went to investigate only to find a gopher who had dug himself a tunnel right into our window well! It was so fun to watch him dig and push the dirt and rocks around with his little limbs. He dug a couple of tunnels and it was like having a large ant farm. We named him Gordy the gopher. Sadly he disappeared after that day. We didn't see him again... until just two days ago! He came back to our little window well. So now we have this phantom pet who brings us a little entertainment every now and again.

Good times here at the Egberts!
